Sigiriya is the most famous rock fortress in Sri Lanka for its massive and impressive architecture. It also named as singhagiri and the meaning of the name is Lion Rock. This is about 200 meters high and it has about 1200 stairs to reach to the top of the sigiriya.

         The Rock is located in northern Matale. near to the Dambulla city, North Central Province and Sigiriya is one of UNESCO heritage in Sri Lanka. According to the history king 'kashyapa' used this rock as a kingdom of his and built all the necessary features such as ponds, flowers gardens, caves and specially the water supply system to the top of the rock. Technology used to create this system is still unbelievable. He also decorated the walls with paints, arts, frescoes , and built an impressive, catchy palace on top of the rock column, accessible through the mouth of an enormous carved lion.
